Welcome to 5th Rayleigh Scout Group 
 
Our Group was founded in 1959 and today has grown to around 80 members, the largest it has ever been, and continues to go from strength to strength.
 
You will find everything from our history to the latest news from our  Beaver, Cub and Scout sections, as well being able to contact us through email or phone.

Group Visit to Shoebury East Beach
 
The end of the summer term saw all sections (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) and parents meeting at Shoebury. We also said goodbye to our Group Scout Leader, Mark, who is moving over the summer. Scouts also put on a little show as part of their Entertainer Badge.
 
            
                     
 
 
Equipment Inventory
 
Adult leaders, helpers and children helped complete an inventory of all the group's tents and equipment recently, in preparation of forthcoming camps.
 
                       
Family Camp 2010

A medieval theme to our second Family Camp. Over 80 people came for the weekend and enjoyed Hog Roast, competitions, wide games and camp fire. For more photos

As of the annual census at the end of January, the group grew for the 6th successive year and now numbers 77, an increase of 20% over 2009. Group Scout Leader

 

Were were the proud recipients of a growth award for the group. We collected our award in September 2009 for 5 years of continuous growth, one of the top in the whole county.

Fund Raising News: Christmas Prize Draw

Our Christmas Prize Draw is now over and I am pleased to say that the sterling efforts of Matt who organised it and all the leaders and parents we raised over £400. The draw was made on the 16th December. First prize a portable DVD player, second prize a coarse fishing set and third prize a Bosch Cordless drill and there were another 11 prizes including Crock Pot Slow Cooker, Revlon Hair Drier, Hotwheels Slam Fest and Cludo Box Game. 

Camps

 

Each Section will be on camp this term/summer. Beavers have a sleepover 3rd-4th July and will join the cubs who will be camping 2-4th July. Scouts have their own patrol camp at the end of July followed by Summer Camp 14-21 August in Theftford Forest.

Fund raising News: 

Tenders for the building of our new hall will be received in July. Foundations for the hall should be layed soon after.

 

Bag Packing Packing at Sainsburys: Well done everyone who helped together with 1st Rayleigh we made £1598.40. An additional thank you to Santander  donated a further £700 and to Waitrose for a donation of £227.

 

 

Group News
 

Community Initiatives Fund: £45,000 donated 

 

We would like to thank the Community Initiatives Fund who last year donated £35,000 and earlier this year a furhter £10,000 towards the re-devleopment of our scout hall. Find out more about the CIF.

Leaders and Helpers Required:   

We are currently looking to fill some posts in the Group:

Group Scout Leader: Our GSL is going to be leaving the group in the summer and we are looking for someone to take on the role.  

Fund Raising: Fund raising is not just about organising it is requires help writing to and promoting our project to build a new hall.

Leaders: As the group continues to grow we are looking to grow each section so we need additional leaders.
